What is Softgun/Airsoft?
Softguns, also known as airsoft guns, are replica weapons that shoot 6 mm plastic pellets (BBs). Most softgun models imitate real firearms and are used for hobbies, competitions and training. The sport of airsoft is played all over the world and continues to grow in popularity.
Rules for Softgun in Norway
In Norway, you must be 18 years old to purchase a softgun. Children and young people under 18 may only use a softgun under adult supervision. Carrying or using a softgun in public is not permitted. It must be used in suitable locations and always in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Key Airsoft Terms
- AEG: Automatic electric gun – battery-powered and often featuring semi-auto and full-auto functions.
- BBs: 6mm plastic pellets, available in various weights for different levels of accuracy and power.
- Blowback: A recoil function that simulates the experience of firing a real firearm.
- GBB/GNB: Gas-powered, with or without blowback, commonly used for pistols.
- Hi-Cap Magazine: A high-capacity magazine, often featuring a wheel for winding up the BBs.
- CQB: Games played in confined areas with limited range and a lower FPS limit.
- Gearbox: Contains the gear system in AEGs that drives the mechanism.

What ammunition do airsoft guns use?
Airsoft guns use 6mm BBs, which come in different weights. Heavier BBs provide greater stability and are often used in more powerful guns. BIO BBs are biodegradable and environmentally friendly, while Tracer BBs glow in the dark and are used with tracer suppressors.
